Community in Mallorca
Expat groups, sports clubs, volunteering, and professional networks — ways to put down roots on the island.

WhatsApp groups for specific areas (Pollença expats, Sóller residents, etc.) exist but are invitation-only. Post in the Facebook groups to ask for access — the community is generally welcoming.
Sports Clubs & Active Communities
Cycling
Mallorca is one of Europe's top cycling destinations. Clubs range from competitive (Club Ciclista Palma) to social (Mallorca Cycling Group on Facebook). Group rides happen year-round — the Tramuntana climbs attract serious cyclists from across Europe.
Running
The Palma Marathon (February) is the island's flagship race. Several running clubs meet weekly: Mallorca Runners, Palma Running Club. Parkrun has a growing presence. Trail running in the Tramuntana is exceptional.
Sailing & Water Sports
Club de Mar Palma and Real Club Náutico de Palma are the prestigious sailing clubs. Several more accessible clubs in Port d'Alcúdia, Pollença, and Andratx offer courses and racing for all levels.
Tennis & Padel
Padel is everywhere and enormously popular. Most sports clubs and urbanisations have courts. Tennis clubs include Club de Tenis Palma and several municipal courts with affordable memberships.
Football & Futsal
Expat football teams exist alongside local Mallorcan clubs. Several mixed leagues cater specifically to the international community. 5-a-side leagues are popular in Palma.
Yoga & Wellness
English-language yoga studios are concentrated in Palma's Santa Catalina and Old Town. Several retreat centres in the rural interior (Sóller area, Banyalbufar) host regular community classes.
CrossFit & Gym
CrossFit boxes and boutique gyms have expanded rapidly in Palma. Chains like Holmes Place and McFit operate alongside independent gyms. Most towns have a basic municipal sports facility (poliesportiu).
Open Water Swimming
A year-round community gathers for sea swims, especially around Portixol and Cala Major in Palma. WhatsApp groups coordinate daily dips. Some brave souls swim every month of the year.
Professional Networking
Mallorca Business Network
A growing community of English-speaking entrepreneurs and professionals on the island. Mixes social events with business introductions. Active on LinkedIn and WhatsApp.
Internations Business Events
Internations' Palma chapter runs dedicated professional networking evenings alongside its social events. Good for making connections across nationalities.
Chamber of Commerce (Cambra de Comerç)
The official chamber organises B2B events and has resources for businesses operating in the Balearics. Membership opens doors to tendering and local business networks.
LinkedIn — Mallorca Groups
Search for 'Mallorca', 'Balearic Islands', and 'Palma' on LinkedIn to find active local professional groups. Particularly useful for real estate, tourism, tech, and finance sectors.
Giving back
Volunteering is one of the fastest ways to integrate, improve your Spanish, and feel genuinely at home.
Animal Rescue
Several organisations rehome abandoned dogs and cats: SPAB (Sociedad Protectora de Animales y Plantas de Baleares) and Amics dels Animals are the main ones. Fostering and volunteering opportunities are always needed.
Environmental Groups
GOB (Grup Balear d'Ornitologia i Defensa de la Naturalesa) is the main environmental NGO. Beach clean-ups are organised throughout the year, often announced via social media and expat groups.
Food Banks & Social Aid
Caritas and Creu Roja (Red Cross) run regular volunteer programmes. Particularly active in winter when tourist-sector workers face reduced income. Language skills in Spanish or Catalan help but aren't always required.
Language Exchange
Language exchanges (intercambios) meet regularly in Palma cafés — typically pairing English/German speakers wanting Spanish with locals wanting English practice. Check Facebook events and Meetup for upcoming sessions.
